Iowa Men's Basketball Head Coach Ben McCollum and his staff are continuously rebuilding the roster ahead of the 2025-2026 season.
McCollum has used the transfer portal to rebuild most of the roster, acquiring six former Drake players, Alvaro Folgueiras (Robert Morris), and Brendan Hausen (Kansas State).
He also successfully flipped in-state prospect Trevin Jirak from Northern Iowa and Oklahoma product Tate Sage from Drake to bolster the roster and the 2025 recruiting class.
McCollum has also faced multiple setbacks on the recruiting trail. FIU transfer guard Ashton Williamson decommitted from the program after agreeing to join on May 21.
The Hawkeyes also lost 2026 prospect Navon Shabazz following his de-commitment from the program. Shabazz initially committed to former Head Coach Fran McCaffery and affirmed his commitment to the Hawkeyes before changing his mind.
Shabazz was the only commitment in the 2026 recruiting class.
Despite a few setbacks, McCollum and his staff remain diligent in their search for more talent to add to the Iowa roster for next season and beyond.
On Friday, the Hawkeyes added a prospect with a familiar name to the 2025 recruiting class.
Peyton McCollum, Ben McCollum's oldest son, has committed to Iowa Men's Basketball for the 2025 season. Peyton becomes the third commitment in the 2025 recruiting class.
Before joining the Hawkeyes, Peyton was a solid player for Waukee Northwest High School in Waukee, Iowa.
During his senior season, the six-foot-two, 170-pound guard averaged 13.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game for the Wolves. He shot 51.4 percent from the field, 40.5 percent from three-point range, and 84.9 percent from the free-throw line.
Peyton helped Waukee Northwest achieve a 22-4 record, including a trip to the State Championship game. He was named a First Team All-State selection by the Iowa Professional Sports Writers Association and a Boys Class 5A First Team All-State selection by Sports Illustrated.
Peyton gives the Hawkeyes some much-needed backcourt depth and can serve as a backup guard next season.
