Iowa Men's Basketball Head Coach Ben McCollum has been adamant about using the transfer portal to rebuild the Iowa roster. The Hawkeyes' roster was decimated following long-time coach Fran McCaffery's dismissal.

The Hawkeyes had 13 players enter the transfer portal (Cooper Koch withdrew) and lost three recruits from the 2025 recruiting class.

McCollum convinced five of his former Drake players to follow him, including Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year Bennett Stirtz. He also flipped Northern Iowa commit Trevin Jirak, making Jirak the first 2025 recruit to join the Hawkeyes.

A 2026 three-star prospect, Navon Shabazz, also reaffirmed his commitment to the Hawkeyes.

Over the past few weeks, McCollum has also met with four-star transfers Alvaro Folgueiras (Robert Morris) and Brennan Duke (Grand Canyon), and four-star prospect Nyk Lewis.

On April 14, McCollum and his staff picked up another big transfer from the transfer portal.

Former Kansas State guard Brendan Hausen announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes via his Instagram account. Hausen becomes the first non-Drake player to transfer to the Hawkeyes.

Before joining Kansas State, Hausen originally committed to play for Jay Wright at Villanova. Wright retired before Hausen took the court but honored his commitment to play for the Wildcats.

In two seasons at Villanova, Hausen averaged 4.7 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 0.5 assists in 13.3 minutes per game. His points and rebound averages jumped significantly from his freshman to sophomore season. His points increased from 3.1 to 6.2, and his rebounds increased from 0.5 to 1.6.

After his sophomore season, Hausen transferred to Kansas State. During his junior season, Hausen averaged 10.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 27.6 minutes per game as a starter. He shot 39 percent from the floor, 38 percent from three-point range, and 81.8 percent from the free throw line.

Hausen is a three-point sniper who has never shot below 38 percent from beyond the arc. Of his career 523 field goal attempts, Hausen has shot 455 from three-point range.

Hausen gives Ben McCollum a knockdown shooter from three-point range and provides the Hawkeyes with some much-needed offense going into the 2025-2026 season.
