Iowa Men's Basketball is continuing to rebuild its roster after the 2024-2025 season. After a disappointing end to the season, 15-year Head Coach Fran McCaffery was fired, opening up the floodgates in Iowa City.
Thirteen players have entered the transfer portal and three prospects have decommitted from the program since McCaffery was fired and was replaced by former Drake Bulldogs Head Coach Ben McCollum.
McCollum has filled the Iowa roster with five transfers from Drake, and has scheduled visits with a highly coveted recruit (Nyk Lewis) and a top transfer portal prospect (Duke Brennan).
On Thursday, the program received more good news surrounding a 2026 recruit.

2026 three-star PG, Navon Shabazz has reaffirmed his commitment to Iowa and Ben McCollum, he tells me.
"I wanted to stay with my commitment because I’m all about winning. Playing for a winning coach and being around winners is what I’m about."https://t.co/OdmwfgpQC1
A 2026 three-star guard, Navon Shabazz, reaffirmed his commitment to the Iowa program. Speculation was mounting that Shabazz would re-open his commitment after McCaffery was dismissed, but he is sticking with the Hawkeyes.
Before joining Iowa United Prep this past season, Shabazz played high school basketball for Davenport Assumption. During his sophomore season, Shabazz was a star for Assumption, averaging 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
At Iowa United Prep, Shabazz is being coached by former Hawkeye great Dean Oliver. Oliver was on the last Iowa team to make the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. During his tome in Des Moines, Shabazz is getting a "college-like" experience that will prepare him to join the Hawkeyes.
Shabazz is ranked as a three-star prospect and the No. 189 overall prospect (No. 3 in Iowa) in the 2026 recruiting class by 247 Sports.
