The 2024-2025 season abruptly ended for the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Hawkeyes Men's Basketball team limped down the stretch and finished with a 17-16 (7-13 Big Ten) record. Iowa's season ended after losing to Illinois in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.

After back-to-back poor seasons and failing to make the NCAA Tournament, long-time Head Coach Fran McCaffery was fired. Ten days later, McCaffery was replaced by Drake Bulldogs Head Coach Ben McCollum.

After McCaffery was fired, Iowa lost three high school prospects for next season. All three prospects decommitted from the program after McCaffery was dismissed. This included four-star prospects Joshua Lewis and Badara Diakite, and three-star prospect Dezmon Briscoe.

Over the weekend, the Hawkeyes received good news from the recruiting trail.

According to 247 Sports, highly-coveted prospect Nyk Lewis makes an official visit to Iowa City on Friday, April 11.

Lewis is ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 55 overall (No. 8 point guard) prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. During his senior season (2024-2025), Lewis averaged 12.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game for Gonzaga High School in Washington DC.

Lewis led the Eagles to a 29-5 record and a Class AA State Championship. After the season, he was named the 2024-2025 District of Columbia MaxPreps High School Basketball Player of the Year.

Lewis originally committed to Xavier University before re-opening his commitment. Xavier is entering a transition period after their former Head Coach, Sean Miller, took the open head coaching position at Texas and was replaced by Richard Pitino.

If he commits to the Hawkeyes, Lewis will make an immediate impact. His offensive game is still a work in progress, but he is lethal in the open floor and is a defensive stopper.

Iowa must beat out VCU, Texas, Vanderbilt, Indiana, and Seton Hall, who have all shown interest in Lewis.
