The fallout continues for the Iowa Men's Basketball program in the wake of long-time Head Coach Fran McCaffery being fired last week. The Hawkeyes have already lost their leading scorer and rebounder Owen Freeman to the transfer portal, and now they have lost a prized recruit.
2025 four-star forward Joshua Lewis has decided to decommit from the Hawkeyes after McCaffery was let go.

The highly-anticipated recruit decided to pull his commitment from the Hawkeyes after the departure of Coach McCaffery.
This will be the second time Lewis has re-opened the recruiting process after originally committing and then decommitting from South Florida. Lewis stated that he was excited to play for McCaffery, but now that he is no longer in charge, it was in his best interest to re-open his recruiting.
Lewis is a six-foot, seven-inch wing who played his high school ball at Blake High School in Tampa, Florida. He averaged 15.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game in high school.
Lewis is an athletic and versatile forward who plays hard at both ends of the floor. He can defend multiple positions as a six-foot, seven-inch wing, and his offensive game is starting to catch up to his defensive prowess.
He is currently ranked as the No. 69 overall recruit in the 2025 class by 247 Sports due to his versatility and athleticism. He has re-opened his recruiting right before the transfer portal is set to open.
This is a big blow to the Iowa Hawkeyes as they continue to deal with the fallout from the firing of Fran McCaffery. Joshua Lewis would have provided a versatile wing defender and would have made an immediate impact on defense and on the glass.
The Hawkeyes are still searching for a new head coach and are beginning to feel the after-effects of the Fran McCaffery firing.
