Iowa Men's Basketball Head Coach Ben McCollum has wasted no time rebuilding the Iowa roster through the transfer portal. The Iowa City native is trying to build a competitvie roster for the 2025-2026 season.
McCollum has already added six players from the transfer portal, including five former Drake Bulldogs. Bennett Stirtz, Cam Manyawu, Kael Combs, Isaia Howard, and Tavion Banks followed McCollum from Drake to Iowa.
Iowa also added sharpshooter Brendan Hausen from the Kansas State Wildcats. On Sunday night, Ben McCollum added another huge transfer from the transfer portal.

Six-foot-nine Spanish big man Alvaro Folgueiras has committed to the Hawkeyes after meeting with Iowa a few weeks ago. Folgueiras became the second non-Drake player to commit to Iowa, and the seventh transfer after McCollum took over the program.
Before committing to the Hawkeyes, Folgueiras became a star for Robert Morris. In two seasons for the Colonials, Folgueiras averaged 9.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in 33.5 minutes per game.
Folgueiras had massive jumps in averages between his freshman and sophomore seasons. He averaged 14.1 points (up from 5.3), 9.1 rebounds (up from 4.5), and 3.2 assists (up from 1.2), en route to winning the 2025 Horizon League Player of the Year award.
The biggest strength of Folgueiras' game is his shooting ability. Last season, he shot 54.8 percent from the field, 41.3 percent from behind the three-point line, and 78.4 percent from the free throw line.
247 Sports ranked Folgueiras as a four-star transfer and the No. 7 power forward (No. 48 overall) in the transfer portal. After joining the Hawkeyes, he has two years of remaining eligibility.
Folgueiras is the second four-star transfer committed to Ben McCollum after Brendan Hausen committed to the Hawkeyes on April 14. Folgueiras gives McCollum another offensive weapon in his arsenal.
As of April 20, 247 Sports has Iowa ranked No. 4 on their transfer portal team rankings list.
