Committed to a program or not, if you are a multi-positional football player, the Iowa Hawkeyes will come calling.
Under Head Coach Kirk Ferentz, the Iowa program excels at developing underrecruited prospects into All-Big Ten performers.
A lot of those players start as one position, and end up succeeding in another.
A prime example of that is former Hawkeye Cooper DeJean, who was a talented all-around athlete for Odebolt-Arthur-Battle Creek-Ida Grove (OA-BCIG) High School in Ida Grove, Iowa.
DeJean was a quarterback and a defensive back in high school, but played primarily as a defensive back for the Hawkeyes.
Another great example is current Iowa center Logan Jones.
Jones was a premier defensive lineman for Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, but transitioned to the offensive line after seeing no game action during his freshman season (2021) and suffering a major injury during his redshirt freshman season.
Jones is now one of the best centers in college football, anchoring the center of the offensive line.
Over the weekend, the Hawkeyes hosted another dual-position high school prospect, trying to flip him from a Big Ten rival.

— Jack Janda (@JackJanda87) November 9, 2025
2026 three-star prospect Jack Janda announced he received an offer from the Iowa program after taking an unofficial visit to Iowa City during the Iowa-Oregon football game this past weekend.
Janda is currently committed as a tight end prospect to the Wisconsin Badgers, and the Hawkeyes are trying to pry him away from a struggling Badgers' program.
Janda tagged multiple Iowa defensive coaches in his post, suggesting that the Hawkeyes value him on the defensive side of the football, rather than at the tight end position.
Rivals and 247Sports have both ranked Janda as a three-star prospect, and there have been no indications that he is looking to jump ship to another school.
Wisconsin has had an abysmal year so far through 11 weeks, and there were rumors that Luke Fickell would be on his way out after this season.
However, Wisconsin decided to bring Fickell back for 2026, quelling rumors that he would be fired for the time being.
With Fickell returning to the sidelines in 2026, it is unknown if recruits like Janda will stick around through the turmoil or bolt for greener pastures elsewhere.
