You want to start playing your best basketball in January, and the Iowa women are doing just that.
After a brief speed bump with losses against No. 11 Iowa State and No. 1 UConn, the Hawkeyes cannot be stopped.
Iowa weathered that storm and has returned to form, rattling off six straight victories, including a gritty 75-68 win over No. 15 Michigan State on January 18.
After Iowa held on to beat the Spartans at home on Sunday night, it was a big night for more than one reason.
Iowa now has four Quad 1 wins this season
The Hawkeyes were bolstered by strong performances from their two post stars, Ava Heiden and Hannah Stuelke.
Stuelke led the Hawkeyes in scoring with 22, and added nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals in a great all-around game from the senior.
Heiden scored 20 points and added six rebounds, with Chit-Chat Wright adding 11 points and five assists in the win.
After the impressive win, the Hawkeyes are now 4-2 in Quad 1 games, adding more strength to their NCAA Tournament resume.
The offense is finally clicking, everyone has bought into the game plan.
Iowa's first and second options are in the post, and they have not deviated from that. Stuelke has also expanded her range and has proven to be an excellent passer from the paint.
That has allowed the Hawkeyes to get paint touches and open looks on the perimeter, and they are taking advantage of them.
After finding success from three-point range over the past few games, Iowa has raised its three-point shooting percentage to 36.2 percent, ranking No. 26 overall.
Not too bad for a post-dominant team, right?
The Hawkeyes have another prime opportunity to pick up a Quad 1 win in their next game as they head to College Park, Maryland, on Thursday, January 22, to take on the No. 12 Maryland Terrapins.
