The Iowa Women's Basketball squad could not be stopped on Sunday as they dominated from start to finish in the 110-43 victory over the Evansville Purple Aces on Sunday afternoon.
Iowa struggled shooting from distance in their opening night win against Southern, but came out firing on all cylinders against the Purple Aces.
Under second-year Head Coach Jan Jensen, the Hawkeyes prefer to do most of their damage down low, but the squad knocked down three times as many threes in Sunday's win versus opening night.
The Hawkeyes made only four three-point baskets in game one and 14 in game two, while shooting 54 percent from beyond the arc.
Iowa was also stingy on defense, forcing 11 steals against a clearly overmatched Evansville squad.
The Hawkeyes excelled in all areas of the game and earned their second win of the season in dominating fashion.
Game Recap
After Chit-Chat Wright knocked down a three-point basket early in the first quarter, you knew it would be a good shooting night for the Hawkeyes.
Wright is more known for he passing than shooting, but can fill it up when she is called upon.
The rest of the squad followed her lead, knocking down 14 three-point baskets en route to a 119-43 win against Evansville.
The Hawkeyes also racked up 11 steals and had 31 assists on 65 made baskets as they ran the Purple Aces out of the gym.
Iowa had six players end the game with double-digit scoring outputs, led by freshman Layla Hays with 20.
Ava Heiden (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Wright (16 points, 10 assists) had double-doubles, while Hannah Stuelke added 13 points and six rebounds.
It was a great all-around offensive night for the Hawkeyes, who will look to carry their momentum into an in-state rivalry game against Drake on November 13 in their next game.
Iowa will be hard to stop if they duplicate that offensive performance
The Hawkeyes were a little rusty on offense in their opening game against Southern, as the Jaguars were physical and got them out of what they wanted to do.
In the second game, every dressed played for the Hawkeyes scored, proving they do not have a problem filling up the boxscore.
Sharpshooting guard Taylor McCabe found her shooting stroke in this game, scoring 12 points, all three-pointers.
Hays also came off the bench and dominated down low, proving she will be a key member of the bench for the Hawkeyes this season.
Iowa will not continue to make 14 three-pointers per game or shoot 65 percent from the floor, but seeing them crank up the offensive intensity and knock down open shots was a welcome sight.
Next game: Thursday, November 13 at 7:30 p.m. Central Time versus Drake
