When it rains, it pours!
Iowa Men's Wrestling opened up their 2025-2026 season with a dominating performance against Bellarmine.
The Hawkeyes cruised to a 40-0 win at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, but it was not what happened on the mat that has everyone talking; instead, it was on the recruiting trail.
Tom Brands and the Iowa Men's Wrestling program added four top recruits in the 2027/2028 class after two sets of brothers committed to Iowa on Sunday night.
The snowball effect started with 2027 prospects Joe Bachmann (No. 3 overall) and Paul Kenny (No. 7 overall) committing to the program at the same time.
Shortly after the two highly touted 2027 prospects announced their commitments, both of their younger brothers, 2028 prospects Freddy Bachmann (No. 1 overall) and Sean Kenny (No. 40 overall), committed to the program.
The Iowa program did a bulk of its recruiting in one night, signing four top prospects in the 2027/2028 classes, and shortly after the pair of brothers committed, another domino fell for the program.

Shortly after the Bachmann and Kenny brothers committed to the program, Israel Borge decided to join them.
MatScouts ranked Borje as the No. 5 overall wrestler in the 2027 recruiting class, which now gives the Hawkeyes five top-40 wrestling prospects in the 2027 class.
Those prospects include Bachmann (No. 3), Borge (No. 5), Kenny (No. 7), Sonny Amato (No. 15), and Dawson Youngblut (No. 34).
According to IAWrestle's Ross Bartachek, from a pure rankings perspective, the 2027 class has the potential to be the highest-ranked class in the Tom Brands era.
The last class with this many highly-ranked recruits was 2017, which included superstar Spencer Lee, and that class was ultimately ranked the No. 1 overall recruiting class in men's wrestling.
