Hawkeye Wrestling secured another huge recruiting win in the 2027 recruiting class.

The Hawkeyes are coming off a disappointing season by Iowa standards, finishing No. 3 at the Big Ten Wrestling Championships behind Penn State and Nebraska, and crowning only one National Champion (Stephen Buchanan - 197 pounds).

Iowa has established a powerhouse wrestling program, including 24 National Championship titles. Even with all those banners hanging in the rafters, the program has not won a title since 2021 as Penn State has won every year since then.

The Hawkeyes have also not won a Big Ten Championship since 2021, largely thanks to Penn State's recent domination.

As the Hawkeyes search for answers, they have been hitting the recruiting trail hard as they try to rebuild.

The Hawkeyes thought they secured top 2026 prospect Bo Bassett until he pulled a 180 on the program and decommitted over the summer.

After that big blow to the roster, Iowa secured the commitment of top 2027 prospect Sonny Amato, and they just earned another recruiting win in the class.

Two-time Iowa state champion and top 40 prospect in the 2027 recruiting class, Dawson Youngblut, announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes.

Youngblut, a Gilbertville, Iowa, native, has guided Don Bosco High School to two-straight Class 1A State Championships and has a career 53-4 overall record.

Youngblut chose the Hawkeyes over Cornell, Iowa State, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, and North Carolina after he took official visits to all six programs.

Youngblut is now the second top prospect to commit to the Hawkeyes after Amato committed to the program at the beginning of October.
