Iowa Football continues to navigate the transfer portal early in the spring. The Hawkeyes have lost seven players to the transfer portal during the early stages of the spring transfer portal. That includes the 2024 starting quarterback, Brendan Sullivan.

The quarterback room was a major question going into the season. The Hawkeyes added transfers Mark Gronowski (South Dakota State) and Hank Brown (Auburn) and have scheduled a visit with Wake Forest transfer Jeremy Hecklinski to bolster the quarterback room.

The Hawkeyes also lost multiple players on the defensive end. That includes Drew Larson (safety), John Nestor (defensive back), Kahlil Tate (defensive back), and Devan Van Ness (linebacker).

On Friday, the Hawkeyes made an offer to a Division II safety transfer to bolster the back line of the defense.

The Hawkeyes made an offer to safety Gavin Edwards after losing freshman Drew Larson to the transfer portal. Edwards spent his first two seasons with Division II North Greenville University and transferred to Austin Peay after the 2024-2025 season.

Edwards entered the transfer portal again before playing a snap for the Governors.

Edwards committed to North Greenville University in 2023, but redshirted after playing just one game. During his sophomore season, Edwards appeared in seven games, tallying 29 total tackles and 6 pass deflections.

After receiving an offer from Iowa, Edwards now has seven offers. He has also received offers from Ball State, Maryland, Old Dominion, Tulsa, and Wake Forest.

After losing multiple defensive players to the portal, the Hawkeyes are looking to bolster the back end by making an offer to Gavin Edwards. Edwards is currently an unranked transfer prospect.
