After new Iowa Men's Basketball Head Coach Ben McCollum took over the program at the end of March, the roster was depleted.
McCollum had to work quickly to rebuild the roster for the upcoming season and establish trust with recruits for future classes.
McCollum and his staff put together a solid roster, including the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Player of the Year, Bennett Stirtz, the MVC Sixth Man of the Year, Tavion Banks, and the Horizon League Player of the Year, Alvaro Folgueiras.
The Hawkeyes were also able to add Trevin Jirak, Tate Sage, and Peyton McCollum to the roster in the 2025 recruiting class.
As summer practices began, McCollum was adamant they wanted to add at least one more player to the roster for next season, and over the weekend, they added a highly coveted prospect who is reclassifying to the 2025 recruiting class.

Trey Thompson, a six-foot-eight, sharpshooting forward prospect from Greenville, Tennessee, announced he is committing to the Iowa program and reclassifying so he can join the squad for the upcoming season.
Adding Thompson is a big win for McCollum and the Iowa program, as he turned down offers from multiple programs to join the Hawkeyes.
Thompson had 20 offers and turned down offers from major college basketball programs, including Alabama, Butler, Indiana, Purdue, Tennessee, and UConn.
On3 Industry ranked Thompson as a three-star prospect, Tennessee's No. 1 prospect, and the No. 125 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class.
All other ranking services, including 247 Sports, ranked Thompson as a four-star prospect. Additionally, 247 Sports listed him as Tennessee's No. 1 overall prospect and the No. 91 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class.
247 Sports' director of scouting, Adam Finkelstein, stated that Thompson is a skilled, face-up forward who can impact the game in the paint and also possesses the skill set to operate effectively on the perimeter.
Finkelstein also noted that while Thompson lacks lateral quickness at the defensive end, he is a smart player with great hands and can play effective team defense.
Thompson will make an immediate impact on the Iowa roster as soon as he steps foot in Iowa City.
