With all the excitement surrounding the winter sports transfer portal window, Kirk Ferentz and the football program are looking for hidden gems on the recruiting trail.

Iowa has received some major commitments following successful visits during spring practices, including four-star edge prospect Tommy Riordan and high-three-star prospect Nate Brenneman.

Over the weekend, the program brought in defensive lineman prospect Carter Napier and immediately gave him an offer.

Carter Napier was very impressed on his unofficial visit to Iowa City

Napier made his unofficial visit to Iowa City over the weekend and raved about it on social media shortly after receiving his offer.

He called Iowa a special program and said that he cannot wait for defensive coach Kelvin Bell to visit Springboro High School soon.

Napier, a Springboro High School product from Springboro, Ohio, has been rising up recruiting boards and locking in multiple official visits over the next few months.

During his junior year last season, Napier showcased his strength and speed, getting around defenders with ease. He also showcased an excellent swim move.

He is also very hard to push back, and even when he struggled to get off blocks, his good hands still allowed him to make plays.

Napier is also a very patient player, waiting for the play to develop before overcommitting and getting out of position.

He has the ideal size (six-foot-three, 265 pounds) for an interior defensive lineman, and his quick hands and good speed should translate at the college level.

Rivals currently ranks Napier as a three-star prospect, Ohio's No. 35 overall prospect, and the No. 102 defensive line prospect in the 2027 recruiting class.
