The wait is over, Hawkeye fans! Iowa finally made a signing from the transfer portal.
Ben McCollum and the Iowa Men's Basketball program had been quiet during the first 10 days of the transfer portal window, searching for the right fit.
McCollum is extremely adept at roster building, proven by Iowa's improbable run to the Elite 8 last season.
After all of Iowa's success last season, it was odd that the program hadn't added anyone from the portal after hosting multiple talented prospects, but that all changed with one big signing.
Iowa found its new lead guard after signing Ty'Reek Coleman
Perseverance finally paid off for McCollum and the Iowa program after days of nothing.
The program was diligently pursuing a replacement for Bennett Stirtz and more guard depth, and they found both after signing Illinois State transfer Ty'Reek Coleman.
Illinois State transfer Ty'Reek Coleman has committed to Iowa. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 10 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 50.4% from the field and 41.6% from deep as a true freshman: https://t.co/LBirHTQwp1 pic.twitter.com/2I2IPcfy2V

McCollum and his staff have had their eyes on Coleman since he was in high school, initially attempting to recruit him to Drake before he committed to Illinois State.
Coleman was a crucial part of the Illinois State Redbirds as a true freshman last season, putting up 10.0 points per game on 50.4 shooting from the field and 41.6 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
Iowa's lead guard problem has been solved for the moment as Coleman gives them a high-level scorer who can get to the basket with ease and also knock down long-range shots.
McCollum now has a proven scorer who can run an offense, and he will pair nicely with Kael Combs in the Iowa backcourt.
Even with Coleman's signing, Iowa should still grab more guard depth in case Coleman's skillset doesn't translate to the Big Ten, but there is no doubt Iowa made a great signing to kick off their transfer portal extravaganza.
