Are you not entertained, Iowa fans?
In front of a sold-out Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Senior Day, just hours after the United States captured the gold medal in men's hockey, Iowa put on a show.
Any questions about Iowa's ability to handle Michigan's intense defensive pressure were answered early, as the Hawkeyes were the more physical team on Sunday afternoon.
It was a stellar game on both ends of the floor for Iowa as they pushed a seven-point halftime lead to 18 points, knocking off the Wolverines 62-44 at home.
Iowa has all but locked up first-round homecourt advantage
Earning a top-four seed in the Women's NCAA Tournament is huge for multiple reasons, the main one being that you get to host the first two games of your tournament on your home floor.
While nothing is guaranteed with a few games left in the regular season and the Big Ten Tournament on the horizon, Iowa entered this game as a three-seed in ESPN's bracketology and has all but locked up homecourt in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Iowa also jumped Michigan in the Big Ten standings after the win, putting itself in a slightly more favorable position for the Big Ten Tournament.
While nothing is locked in until Selection Sunday, the Hawkeyes are in a prime position to make some noise in the postseason.
Ava Heiden was unstoppable once again
After Iowa's victory over Nebraska, head coach Jan Jensen said that Heiden has only scratched the surface of her potential and that she continues to improve each game.
After a slow first-half start, Heiden exploded on both ends of the court in the second half, scoring 20 of her 24 points.
Heiden speed and quickness in the open floor and in the post were on full display against Michigan, and the Wolverines had no answer.
She finished the game with 24 points and 10 rebounds, notching her third-straight double-double in another dominating performance.
The seniors were spectacular on Senior Day
In a rare feat these days, all four of Iowa's seniors, including Hannah Stuelke, Kylie Feuerbach, Taylor McCabe, and Jada Gyamfi, stuck together all four years.
Sadly, Gyamfi and McCabe were not able to suit up with injuries, but Stuelke and Feuerbach had great games in their second-to-last regular-season home game.
Hannah was day-to-day with an upper-body injury, but suited up and started for the Hawkeyes on Senior Day, and she didn't disappoint.
She narrowly missed a triple-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists, and was active on defense as the Hawkeyes forced 24 turnovers.
Kylie tallied eight points, three rebounds, and two assists, but it was her stellar defense on Michigan's leading scorer, Olivia Olson, that was the key in the victory.
She held Olsen to 13 points on 38 percent shooting, which is six points below her season average.
Feuerbach always does all the little things, and we tend to take her for granted because she doesn't fill up the box score.
Iowa has one of the top freshman trio in college basketball
The program has gotten everything and more from their fabulous trio of freshmen, including Addie Deal, Journey Houston, and Layla Hays.
While Deal has gotten most of the headlines for her five-star ranking coming into the season and the back-to-back freshman of the week honors, Houston and Hays have also been spectacular.
Houston set a career-high in scoring with 16 points last game against Purdue in her first career start, and had multiple key rebounds in Iowa's win over Michigan.
She has become Jan Jensen's first player off the bench, surpassing Hays and Deal as Iowa's sixth woman.
Outside of the blue-blood women's college basketball programs, it is rare for teams to play three freshmen regularly, but Jensen has been comfortable doing so, and it has paid off in a big way.
When the Hawkeyes lock in on defense, good luck everybody else
Iowa not only held Michigan to its lowest-scoring game of the season but also forced the Wolverines into 24 turnovers.
Michgian is one of the best teams in women's college basketball in turning defense into offense, but the Hawkeyes stifled them all afternoon.
Kylie Feuerbach's defense is EXTREMELY underrated, and while she sets the tone, defense is a team effort.
During Iowa's three-game losing streak at the beginning of February, they were lax on defense, leading to poor performances. When the switch flipped against Washington, the Hawkeyes haven't lost since.
Iowa has shown it can be physical, espcially down low, and even though they won't force 24 turnovers per game, when they are locked in on the defensive end, teams have a hard time scoring.
Next game: Thursday, February 27 vs. Illinois at 8:00 p.m. Central Time (Iowa City, IA)
