The human highlight reel has done it agin.
The Iowa program has become synonymous with dynamic players in the return game, including former Hawkeye and current Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Cooper DeJean, as well as current wide receiver Kaden Wetjen.
Wetjen and the Iowa special teams unit started the season off slowly and struggled to help the team in either of the first two games. Over the past two games, they have flipped the script.
Wetjen has returned to form, notching return touchdowns in back-to-back weeks as he continues to produce highlight reel plays with the ball in his hands.
The dynamic return specialist is well on his way to captruing the Jet Award again this season, but credits the blocking he has received over the past few games.
During his postgame media availability (posted by "The Hawkeye Report"), Wetjen gave all the credit to his blockers for opening up a lane for him to return the opening kickoff for a touchdown.
He stated that he "knew instantly" it was going to be a touchdown because you do not often see gaps that big.
Wetjen also mentioned that the Rutgers' kicker has a good leg, and they knew they would not get very many chances to return kickoffs. Luckily, he gave them a chance on the opening kickoff.
Wetjen is also hopeful that teams keep kicking the ball to them so he can continue to showcase his abilities in the return game.
When he was asked what special teams coach LeVar Woods said to him on the sidelines after he returned the kickoff for a touchdown, Wetjen said that Woods told him he nearly "pulled a hamstring" running down the sideline in celebration.
Iowa is flying high after back-to-back emotional wins, and they will need to play a perfect game next week during homecoming as they welcome a red-hot Indiana Hoosiers squad to Kinnick Stadium next weekend.
