After Ben McCollum took over for former Iowa Head Coach Fran McCaffery, he started to rebuild the Iowa roster and coaching staff. Building a new roster from scratch is challenging, especially in the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) era.
McCollum has navigated the waters of the transfer portal and NIL to compile a competitive roster for his first season at the helm. A big part of that is hiring the right mix of coaches.
Since he arrived on campus, McCollum has added six coaches to his staff. Five coaches worked with him at Drake, including Josh Sash, Bryston Williams, Connor Wheeler, Jesse Shaw, and Xavier Kurth.
McCollum also added an elite recruiter, Luke Barnwell, from Texas Tech.
On Wednesday, McCollum made another addition to his staff.

Jaran Richman joins McCollum's staff after spending last season with him at Drake. He will serve as Iowa's director of scouting.
Before becoming a coach, Richman played for McCollum at Northwest Missouri State. He was a part of the Bearcats' 2021 National Championship-winning team.
His first coaching experience was under McCollum as a graduate assistant for Northwest Missouri State (2021-2023) before becoming a full-time assistant coach in 2023. When McCollum was hired at Drake, he followed.
He spent the 2024-2025 season as an assistant to the head coach. As an assistant, he helped guide Drake to a program-record 31 wins, Missouri Valley Conference and Tournament Titles, and an NCAA Tournament berth.
Richman is the most recent addition to McCollum's staff, and hopes to guide Iowa to the same success he had with Drake.
