Jan Jensen and her staff haven't been afraid to swing big on the recruiting trail, and the results speak for themselves.
Over the past few seasons, Jensen has landed five-star recruits Addie Deal (2024) and McKenna Woliczko (2026), while also landing four-star recruits Journey Houston (2025) and Layla Hays (2025). The program also landed elite shooter and four-star guard prospect Jada Seubert, the No. 72 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class. As the summer continues, the program has moved its focus to the 2029 class, offering an extremely talented guard with elite potential.
Do-it-all 2029 PG prospect Harper Winter received an offer from the Hawkeyes
After losing five guards to the transfer portal after a disappointing end to the 2025-2026 season, the program scrambled to add more depth at the position. The program snagged Dani Carnegie (Georgia), Amari Whiting (Oklahoma State), Bria Medina (Knox College), and Jocelyn Faison (Georgia) to add more depth, but three of the four could be out the door after this season. With elite shooter Jada Seubert committed in the 2027 class, the program is working hard to add another talented guard to a future class.

Overland Park, Kansas native Harper Winter announced she received an offer from the Hawkeyes, giving them a head start on one of the top talents in the 2029 recruiting class. Even though it's extremely early in the 2029 recruiting cycle, ESPN has already ranked Winter as a four-star prospect with a scouting grade of 92 overall, which is pretty amazing for a freshman. Prep Girls Hoops also currently ranks her as Kansas' No. 1 overall prospect in the class.
Winter burst onto the scene as a freshman for Blue Valley North High School after they had just won the Kansas 6A State Championship the previous season. She did a little bit of everything for the Mustangs last season, earning the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year after averaging 18.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.0 steals per game. Winter has become a hot commodity early on in her amateur career, earning offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, and Texas Tech, with the offers likely to grow.
Jensen has proved that she can compete with other women's college basketball blue-bloods on the recruiting trail, and reeling in Winter would prove that. It is still too early to make any concrete determinations about Winter's game, but if her freshman season was any indication, she could be a program-altering guard if she continues developing at such a high rate. Adding Winter would give the Hawkeyes a stellar backcourt duo with her and Seubert (assuming she stays), and adding more guard depth will continue to be a focus moving forward.
