We are only 10 days away from the start of the 2025-2026 Iowa Football season! As the Hawkeyes continue preparing for the upcoming season, we take a look at a new member of the Iowa squad: No. 10 Jeremy Hecklinski.
Hecklinski, a redshirt freshman quarterback, joined the Hawkeyes during the offseason after transferring from Wake Forest.
During his brief career with the Demon Deacons' program, Hecklinski attempted only three passes and used his redshirt last season.
Before committing to Wake Forest and transferring to Iowa, Hecklinski was a highly touted quarterback prospect from Georgia.
During his senior season (2023-2024) for Walton High School in Marietta, Georgia, Hecklinski tallied 3,853 passing yards and 50 touchdowns to only six interceptions.
He was named the MaxPreps Georgia Player of the Year and selected as an Adidas All-American.
Coming out of high school, Rivals ranked Hecklinski as a three-star prospect, Georgia's No. 73 prospect, the No. 42 quarterback prospect, and the No. 646 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class.
After committing to the Wake Forest football program, Hecklinski became the highest-ranked quarterback recruit to commit to Wake Forest.
Following limited playing time as a true freshman, which ultimately led to his decision to use his redshirt, Hecklinski entered the transfer portal and joined the Hawkeyes.
Hecklinski joined a completely revamped quarterback room after the 2024-2025 season saw multiple quarterbacks get hurt or play ineffectively.
The Hawkeyes added transfers Mark Gronowski (South Dakota State), Hank Brown (Auburn) and Hecklinski (Wake Forest) to the group along with recruit Jimmy Sullivan and returner Jackson Stratton.
The program is expected to name Gronowski as the starter ahead of week one, with the backup position being wide open.
Hecklinski does not project to have an impact this season, but as a redshirt freshman, he has time to carve out a role in the future.
