For the third time in four years, the Las Vegas Aces are WNBA champions!
The Aces started the season extremely slowly as the team failed to mesh during the early part of the season.
Most of the Aces' struggles were due to the absence of superstar A'ja Wilson, who was sidelined with multiple injuries, as the Aces had a losing record through July 25.
After Wilson got healthy and returned to her MVP form, the Aces went on a tear to close the season, including a 16-game winning streak that carried them into the playoffs.
The Aces stayed hot, making it back to the WNBA finals as they attempted to capture their third title in four years. Las Vegas had to get through a red-hot Phoenix Mercury squad, which upset the New York Liberty and the Minnesota Lynx to make it back to the finals.
The Aces made short work of the Mercury, sweeping them in four games, due to the superstar A'ja Wilson's dominance and the strength of their bench.
A key member of their bench mob is former Hawkeye superstar Megan Gustafson.

Gustafson's status for the season was up in the air after suffering a severe lower leg injury during training camp in April.
Gustafson was out for the first three months of the season, returning in late July. During the regular season as Wilson's primary backup, she averaged 3.0 points and 1.8 rebounds per game off the bench.
During the postseason, she averaged 2.0 points and 1.3 rebounds per game in 10 games.
While Gustafson no longer puts up the gaudy numbers that she used to put up as a member of the Hawkeye Women's Basketball squad, she is still a key member of the Aces bench and is now a WNBA champion!
