Bringing in a former Iowa legend could be just the boost Jan Jensen and the program needs

Jan Jensen's offensive strategy has been very apparent since taking over as head coach last season.

While having a star guard like Lucy Olsen last season slightly shifted that strategy, Jensen still wants the ball to run through the post.

Paint touches are paramount in Jensen's strategy, and she has two of the best post players in the Big Ten to accomplish that strategy.

Ava Heiden and Hannah Stuelke are the unquestioned top options in Iowa's offense this season, but after two straight losses, the Hawkeyes are breaking out all the stops to make sure two losses don't turn into more.

Legendary Hawkeye Megan Gustafson was spotted at an Iowa practice

It wasn't the first time, and it probably won't be the last time that we see former legendary Hawkeye Megan Gustafson helping the Hawkeyes at practice.

Gustafson was seen at a practice last summer during the WNBA All-Star break, and she was recently back in Iowa City to help a few of Iowa's post players.

According to Hawkeye Report's Kyle Huesmann, Gustafson was at an Iowa practice on February 4, a day before Iowa welcomes Minnesota to Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

She was seen working with Iowa centers Ava Heiden and Layla Hays, although it is unclear what they were working on.

Before Caitlin Clark set the college basketball world on fire, Gustafson was widely considered to be the best player in Iowa women's basketball history.

She averaged 20.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game during her four seasons in Iowa City (2015-2019).

Gustafson was named the Consensus National Player of the Year after her senior year (2019), after averaging 27.8 points and 13.4 rebounds per game.

After back-to-back losses for the first time this season, there is no doubt that bringing in one of the best players in program history will benefit Iowa's post players.

Hays (freshman) and Heiden (sophomore) are both very young players who can benefit from the wisdom of a veteran WNBA player and one of the best post players in college basketball history.
