If there is one player who would be a good ambassador for Ben McCollum and the Iowa men's basketball program, it's Bennett Stirtz.
Stirtz has been with McCollum every step of the way from Northwest Missouri State to Drake to Iowa, and his influence extends far beyond the basketball court. He was the unquestioned leader of the Hawkeyes last season during his one and only year with the program, and he has continued to speak highly of McCollum and the coaching staff.
After Iowa's magical run to the Elite Eight, Stirtz stated that if you want to be a great point guard, you should go to Iowa. Now, he has a chance to put those words into action by guiding a top-50 prospect to Iowa City.
2027 guard prospect Tyrone Jamison has stayed in contact with Stirtz, is excited to visit
McCollum's first season in Iowa City went better than most people expected, and his success, coupled with Stirtz's influence has captured the attention of a top guard prospect.

Four-star prospect Tyrone Jamison initially received an offer from Iowa last summer, becoming one of the first players McCollum had interest in after being hired by the program.
McCollum and the program have stayed in constant contact with Jamison, and it has paid off in a big way. When he was asked about McCollum and the coaching staff, Jamison had nothing but praise.
He admitted that after McCollum and company started recruiting him, he looked into McCollum's background, and he was impressed. Jamison noted that McCollum has a winning background, and he loves the way he develops point guards.
Jamison also noted that McCollum and assistant coach Bryston Williams are "his guys and they have a great sense of humor. He has also stayed in contact with Stirtz and is impressed by his work ethic and by the fact that he doesn't complain.
The excitement is building for the Iowa program, and even though they don't have a commit in the 2027 class, Jamison could easily be the first.
Jamison has the skills to make an immediate impact for the Hawkeyes
Jamison's elite three-point shooting and ability to finish at the rim are his biggest strengths, but he is also strong in other areas. He is a willing passer and can play at either the point guard or off-guard position, giving McCollum some flexibility.
If the Hawkeyes can convince Jamison to come to Iowa City, he could easily compete for either guard spot solely based on his shooting prowess. With Ty'Reek Coleman locked in for potentially three more seasons, the Hawkeyes could have a solid one-two punch in the backcourt.
We all know how important size is in the Big Ten Conference, but time after time, the team with the best guard play goes the furthest in the NCAA Tournament.
Jamison admitted he was locked into Iowa's improbable Elite Eight run alongside most of the country, and he seems genuinely excited for the oppotrunity to visit the program. Jamison is the perfect player to build the 2027 class on, and hopefully he gives the program some good news after his visit next month.
