Iowa's win over UMass last Saturday was important on many levels.

After the win, long-time Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz earned win No. 206 with the program, breaking Woody Hayes' record for career wins in the Big Ten.

For the first time in recent memory and possibly for the first time ever, Ferentz led the "swarm" off the field, holding hands with his players as they headed back to the locker room.

Not only did Ferentz break the all-time wins record, but quarterback Mark Gronowski also broke the quarterback record for career wins after notching win No. 51 in his exceptional college football career.

An unforseen outcome of the victory over UMass was the commitment of a 2026 prospect who was in the building to witness history on Saturday.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native David Fason committed to the Hawkeye program after taking an official visit to Kinnick Stadium last weekend.

Fason is a multi-sport athlete at Prairie High School in Cedar Rapids, including baseball, football, and basketball.

Fason (six-foot-two, 253 pounds) was used as a defensive lineman and a tight end for the Hawks last season.

During his recruitment, Fason received only one scholarship offer from Northern Iowa, but chose to join the Hawkeye program as a walk-on.

Rivals and 247Sports have Fason as an unranked prospect in the 2026 recruiting class.

It is unclear whether the Hawkeyes will use Fason as a defensive lineman or a tight end, but he has the size and strength of a defensive lineman and could excel in Phil Parker's system
