After a torrid start to the season, Iowa Women's Basketball has run into some adversity over the past three games.

The Hawkeyes started a perfect 9-0 before losing two of their previous three games.

Iowa dropped the Cy-Hawk rivalry matchup to No. 10 Iowa State in Ames, won big against Lindenwood at home, and then lost again on the road to No. 1 UConn in New York.

There is no shame in losing to two very good teams, but after the 26-point loss to UConn last weekend, the Hawkeyes slid in the rankings.

Iowa dropped from No. 11 to No. 14 in the most recent AP Top 25 rankings, remaining in the top 15 for now.

Despite losing two out of three games over the past few weeks, Iowa is still doing a lot of good things to start the season.

Jan Jensen's unit is still outscoring their opponents by nearly 23 points per game (82.2 to 59.6) and out-rebounding opponents by nearly 14 per game (48.1 to 34.5).

The offense has been better than the defense as the unit continues to use its size and length in the paint.

The Hawkeyes ran into the buzzsaw that is UConn, which has been running through everyone to start the season.

Iowa was sloppy with the ball, allowing UConn to score a massive 41 points off 26 Hawkeye turnovers.

While that trend will likely not continue, it brings up questions about Jan Jensen's post-focused strategy.

Multiple times in the loss, the Hawkeyes forced the ball inside, and it was a black hole. There was no ball movement, and UConn's pressure forced Hannah Stuelke, Ava Heiden, and Layla Hays into several turnovers.

We fully expect Jensen and her squad to clean up the mistakes, and the Hawkeyes have a prime opportunity to get back on track with a home game against Penn State.

Iowa battles Penn State at 3:00 p.m. Central Time on Sunday, December 28, in the squad's final matchup of 2025.
