Iowa basketball: Three possible transfers to fill empty scholarship spot
By Andrew Wade
Malik Ellison
Before we begin this exercise, it’s important to note that Malik Ellison has not visited nor has he been linked to the Iowa basketball program in any way, shape, or form. He would, however, be a great addition to the program if he decided to go that way.
Fran McCaffery and his staff got an up close and personal look early in the 2018-2019 season when the Iowa basketball team took on Pitt. Although the stat line isn’t going to light the world on fire, Ellison scored 4 points, dished out 1 assist, and pulled down 3 rebounds, which is in line with his season averages of 5.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.
At 6’6”, 215 pounds, the former three-star recruit could be a solid addition to the bench and spell Isaiah Moss in limited minutes.
Most importantly, he is eligible immediately.
This scenario is the least likely of the three in this article to happen though. Ellison is a New Jersey native and spent two years with the St Johns basketball program before spending the year with Pitt. He is likely to stick to the east coast.
