The hype is large for Hawkeye Men's Hoops entering their first season with new Head Coach Ben McCollum at the helm.

McCollum and his staff are integrating players into their system and trying to establish a new culture in Iowa City that is built for prolonged success.

A significant factor in the prolonged success is the ability to recruit and add the right players to the roster.

McCollum has stated that there are a large number of good basketball players out there, but he wants to recruit high-character guys first, and the basketball part will fall into place.

The Iowa program secured its first big recruiting win of the McCollum era when it added four-star forward Trey Thompson to the 2025 recruiting class.

Thompson, a six-foot-eight, versatile forward prospect from Greenville, Tennessee, initially turned down over 20 offers and chose to commit to the Hawkeyes in the 2026 recruiting class.

After committing to Iowa, it was announced that Thompson was reclassifying to the 2025 recruiting class and would join the Iowa program this season.

After Thompson came onboard, McCollum is hoping for another recruiting victory in the form of a four-star guard from Gainesville, Florida.

According to 247 Sports National Recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins, 2026 prospect Joseph Hartman has scheduled a visit to Iowa City from September 12 to 14.

Hartman, the son of Florida Gators' assistant coach Carlin Hartman, is a versatile player who excels on both ends of the floor.

247 Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein describes Hartman as a player with inside-out and playmaking skills, who can handle the basketball. Hartman was also described as having a great feel for the game.

247 Sports has ranked Hartman as a four-star prospect, Florida's No. 17 prospect, the No. 19 shooting guard prospect, and the No. 91 overall prospect in the 20206 recruiting class.

Rivals has ranked Hartman as a four-star prospect, Florida's No. 8 prospect, the No. 15 shooting guard prospect, and the No. 61 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class.
