Iowa Wrestling is trying to get back in track on the recruiting trail after losing multiple highly touted prospects.
At the end of June, the Hawkeyes lost potential star recruit Bo Bassett following a reported dispute he had with Head Coach Tom Brands and the wrestling program.
It was reported that Bo and his family requested accommodations for flights and hotels so Bo and his brother, Melvin Williams, could train in Iowa City.
Brands was reportedly offended and said no, stating he would not let them tell him how to run his program.
The Bassetts did not confirm or deny the rumors, stating the program was not the right fit for Bo.
Immediately following his decommittment from the program, Melvin Williams, his brother, and the No. 1 overall wrestler in the 2027 class, scratched Iowa off his top choices list.
Even after Bassett's high-profile exit and losing Williams, Hawkeye's program prestige continues to attract top talent.
Multiple 2027 prospects, including Sonny Amato, Hayden Schwab, and Dawson Youngblut, have Iowa on their top choices list.
On the last day of June, another top 2027 prospect released his top choices list, with Iowa making the final seven.

2027 prospect Israel Borge released his top destinations list, and has Iowa among the seven teams on his list.
MatScouts ranked Borge as the No. 5 overall wrestler in the 2027 recruiting class, and FloWrestling has him as the No. 27 wrestler on their big board.
During the 2024-2025 season, Borge captured his first state title at 138 pounds after failing to win the prior season.
Following his state title, the Daily Herald selected Borge for the All-Utah Valley Boys Wrestling Team.
If Borge commits to the Hawkeyes, he is projected to wrestle in the 125 or 133-pound weight classes.
