Former Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean is flying high after a solid rookie season with the Philadelphia Eagles.

After the Eagles traded up and selected DeJean with the No. 40 overall draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, they knew they had a potential breakout star in the defensive secondary.

During his rookie season for the Eagles (2024-2025), DeJean tallied 51 total tackles (38 solo, 13 assisted), three fumble recoveries, and 0.5 sacks after missing the first five games of the season with an injury.

The most memorable moment for the former Hawkeye superstar came in the Eagles' Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Eagles held a 10-0 lead midway through the second quarter when DeJean stepped in front of a bad pass by Patrick Mahomes, and took it all the way to the house for a pick-six.

DeJean's 38-yard touchdown off the Mahomes' interception gave the Eagles a 17-0 lead and helped secure their victory.

DeJean is entering his second year in the Eagles' organization, and joined the squad for training camp this week.

After the first day of training camp, the Eagles' defensive coaching staff, led by Vic Fangio, made it clear they want DeJean on the field at all times.

After day one of Eagles' training camp, CBS Sports NFL writer Jeff Kerr reported that Philadelphia wants to utilize DeJean's versatility by having him play slot corner, and moving him to safety in five-down linemen sets.

Kerr noted that the success moving DeJean to safety hinges on rookie cornerback Mac McWilliams' ability to play as the slot cornerback.

After day one of training camp, Kerr stated that McWilliams had a solid day in the slot, which gives the Eagles the flexibility to move DeJean around and utilize his versatility.

Kerr is confident that if McWilliams continues his progression, the Eagles' defense can be even more dangerous next season, as they can utilize DeJean at the outside or slot corner and the safety position.
