Iowa Baseball and Softball teams were back in Iowa City for mid-week games on Tuesday. Iowa Baseball is flying high after winning the weekend series against the Northwestern Wildcats in Evanston, Illinois.

Iowa Softball upset No. 20 Nebraska on Sunday and looked to carry that momentum into Tuesday's game.

Hawkeyes take care of the Panthers in Iowa City

Iowa Baseball has been one of the hottest teams in the Big Ten over the last month. They have won 10 of their last 11 Big Ten Games, and are in second place in the Big Ten standings. The Hawkeyes returned to Iowa City for a mid-week game against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers.

Iowa jumped on Milwaukee early and often, and picked up the 11-6 win.

The Hawkeyes jumped on the board early after a Miles Risley first-inning sacrifice fly. Iowa added three more runs in the third and one run in the fourth inning. The Hawkeyes would break the game open in the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, junior first baseman Blake Guerin smashed his seventh homer of the season. Sophomore utility man Kellen Strohmeyer followed that up with a three-run bomb off the scoreboard.

Two more Hawkeyes would score in the seventh inning en route to the 11-6 victory.

Iowa batted .351 on the night and had 14 hits in the victory. Seven pitchers took the mound for the Hawkeyes and combined for 12 strikeouts and six walks. The pitching staff gave up three earned runs on seven hits.

Iowa ( 21-10, 12-3 in the Big Ten) welcomes rival Nebraska to Duane Banks Field for a three-game series this weekend. The series begins on Friday, April 11, at 6:02 p.m. Central Time.

Iowa Softball drops a close game to Illinois State

On Tuesday, the Iowa Softball team welcomed the Illinois State Redbirds to Bob Pearl Field. The Hawkeyes upset No. 20 Nebraska during their previous game and hoped to carry that momentum into their Tuesday game against the Redbirds.

Junior Jalen Adams started on the mound for the Hawkeyes. Adams pitched another gem, not giving up a run in 7.1 innings. She also struck out five batters and scattered four hits. Freshman Talia Tretton relieved Adams in the seventh inning.

Tretton pitched two solid innings before giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits in the top of the 10th inning. Iowa only managed one run in the bottom of the inning and lost 2-1.

The Hawkeye bats were ice-cold against the Redbirds. They had more strikeouts (5) than hits (4), and could not get a hit in the clutch. Iowa left nine runners on base and only managed to push one run across.

Iowa (22-15, 4-6 in the Big Ten) travels to College Park, Maryland, this weekend for a three-game series against the Terrapins. The series begins Friday, April 11, at 5:00 p.m. Central Time.
