Entering Sunday's series finale, Iowa Baseball was flying high. The Hawkeyes entered the series finale against the Northwestern Wildcats on a 10-game winning streak.

Iowa has outscored their opponents 32-5 during the last three games. In the first two games of the series against Northwestern, Iowa has dominated the Wildcats 19-2.

In games one and two of the series, Northwestern only managed two runs and had 19 strikeouts. The Hawkeyes went for the sweep on Sunday afternoon.

After dropping the series finale 5-4, the Hawkeyes bid for 11 straight conference wins fell short.

On Sunday, senior Reece Beuter took the mound for the Hawkeyes. Beuter gave up three runs on four hits and had three strikeouts in two innings.

The game was close throughout and was tied going into the eighth inning. Northwestern took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning after a solo home run. In the top of the ninth inning, the Hawkeyes tied the game on a Blake Guerin run-scoring double.

Northwestern loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning. Iowa got two outs, but the Wildcats hit a walk-off single to win the game 5-4.

Graduate pitcher Ben Detaeye was charged with the loss after giving up one earned run in the seventh inning.

Five other Hawkeyes pitchers entered the game and gave up two runs on four hits. The Hawkeyes' pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts, but gave up six walks in the loss.

Iowa drops to second place in the Big Ten standings after the loss.

The Hawkeyes head back to Iowa City for one game against Milwaukee on Tuesday, April 8, at 4:00 p.m. Central time. After Milwaukee, the Hawkeyes welcome Nebraska to Duane Banks Field on April 11 for a three-game series.
