It is almost March and every sports fan knows what that means. That's right, March Madness is almost here and I know I am excited to see what happens this year. With just a couple of regular season games left on the women's side, conference tournaments are just around the corner, and chaos is about to ensue.
As we all know, the winner of the conference tournament gets to automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. So a 14-seed in the tournament with a losing record could win it all and find themselves playing in the postseason. Or we see the team that was meant to win it all actually win it all and life moves on.
The best part about Selection Sunday is the reactions from teams that were hoping for a spot actually getting in. Now, the Iowa women's basketball won't be sitting on the edge of their seats wondering if they are in, they are already a lock. Selection Sunday will be more about when, where, and who the Hawkeyes will be playing.
Selection Sunday will take place on Sunday, March 17 at 8:00 p.m. on ESPN. Once Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes have their location and opponent, they will begin to prepare for what lies ahead.
March Madness will run from March 20 through April 7. The first two rounds, the Sweet Sixteen, and the Eilight Eight will take place at the higher seed regions. The Final Four will be held in Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio on April 5 at 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on ESPN. Finally, the championship game will be on Sunday, April 7 at 3:00 p.m. on ABC.
