Caitlin Clark officially holds the all-time scoring record in NCAA women's basketball. Let me say this one more time, with regular-season games left to spare, Caitlin Clark has passed Kelsey Plum on the all-time scoring list with 3,528 points.
Clark broke the record in the most Clark way possible. After knocking down a layup and a three in the opening minutes of the game, Clark was just three points from the record. Then after a defensive rebound by the Hawkeyes, Clark got the pass from her teammate, dribbled the ball past the half-court line, and from the logo let her shot fly and sunk the historic bucket.
It took Clark just over two minutes for Clark to get the eight points needed for the record. Clark came into this game as the all-time leading scorer in the Big 10 and now holds the all-time leading scorer in all of women's basketball.
Clark had her whole family there to support her for this historic moment. Her parents are sporting her jersey number and her two brothers. Announcers talked about how one of her brothers missed school just to be there tonight to support his sister.
Looking at the all-time men's basketball scoring record, Pete Maravich holds the record with 3,667 points. Depending on how many points Clarks in this matchup with Michigan, and how many she scored in the final four regular season games, Clark could break that record too.
After the end of the first quarter, Clark already has 23 points, so I think it is safe to say she is feeling it tonight.
