The punting game seems to be the highlight of the first half of Iowa vs. Iowa State

The Cy-Hawk Showdown has not been as electrifying as fans would have.

To be honest, the punting game has completely run the first half, but it seems to be Iowa State's game plan.

After coming out slow on offense in Week 1, The Iowa Hawkeyes looked better on offense in Week 2 against Iowa State in the first half. After punting on the first drive, the Iowa defense, with some help from the loud crowd in Kinnick Stadium got Iowa State to third down with a delay of game penalty and a false start and forced them to...you guessed it, punt.

The Iowa offense looked great on their second drive as they marched down the field and scored a touchdown thanks to some great throws from McNamara, something fans didn't see in the first half last week or before he was injury last season, and some great runs from running back Kaleb Johnson, the Hawkeyes took an early 7-0 lead.

The Hawkeyes weren't able to punch the ball in though twice when they were in Iowa State territory forcing the Hawkeyes to settle for field goals. However, the punter Tyler Perkins was showcased on those plays too as the holder.

The Iowa defense was suffocating the Iowa State offense as they forced punts on every drive except for one, but that was only because they intercepted Rocco Becht in Hawkeyes territory setting Iowa up for an easy field goal since they could not find the end zone.

The Hawkeyes would have held the the Cyclone offense to less than 100 yards in the first half had the special teams unit not committed an uncharacteristic penalty on the punt granting Iowa State a fresh set of downs. The Hawkeyes' defense still has yet to allow any points in the first six quarters of the season as Iowa State's kicker missed a field goal to end the first half.

Phil Parker's unit is looking like it could be the best in the Big Ten if not the best in the country if they are able to keep this up.

Iowa leads 13-0 at the half as the Hawkeyes defense will see the field first in the second half as Iowa State deferred on the coin toss.
