The Iowa Hawkeyes Men's Basketball season ended abruptly with a 106-94 loss to Illinois in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament. The game did not end well for the Hawkeyes, but it was fun to watch the 200-point offensive explosion by both teams.

In Payton Sandfort's last game as a Hawkeye, the sharp-shooting forward dropped 30 points on 55 percent shooting from the field and made eight three-point baskets.

Sandfort will get one last chance to represent the University of Iowa during the Final Four on April 3.

The 36th annual State Farm Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships features the best shooters and high-flying dunkers in men's and women's college basketball.

Sandfort is the seventh Hawkeye to participate in the event. He is the first since Jordan Bohannon in 2022. Bohannon won the event in Phoenix in 2022.

Sandfort, a Waukee, Iowa native, had a solid career for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He is only one of two Hawkeyes to accumulate 1,500-plus points, 500-plus rebounds, and make 250-plus three-point field goals.

Sandfort started 74 games during his four-year career at Iowa, averaging 12.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. He averaged 42 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from three-point range, and 89.6 percent from the free throw line (best in Iowa history).

Sandfort's best shooting season was his junior year (2023-2024), when he shot 44.6 percent from the field, 37.9 percent from three-point range, and 91.1 percent from the free throw line.

During his senior season (2024-2025), Sandfort averaged 16.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game on 40.7 percent shooting from the floor, 34 percent from the three-point line, and 89.1 percent from the free throw line.

Sandfort will test his shooting prowess one last time on April 3 in San Antonio, Texas, when he competes in the State Farm Slam Dunk and 3-Point Shooting Championships.
