Reunited, and it feels so good!
The 2026 NBA Draft was a chance for 60 former college and international stars to realize their NBA dreams. The latest NBA Draft was not without its share of controversies, but one thing that wasn't controversial: where and when Bennett Stirtz was selected.
The former Hawkeye star was chosen with the No. 16 overall pick by the Memphis Grizzlies before immediately being flipped to Oklahoma City for the No. 17 pick and two second-round picks. Stirtz was not the only former Hawkeye who would end up with the Thunder.
Former Hawkeye sharpshooter Josh Dix is headed to OKC on a two-way contract
A player who is still very familiar to Hawkeye fans went undrafted, but is headed to Oklahoma City on a two-way deal, reuniting him with former teammate Payton Sandfort.

According to Shams Charania, former Hawkeye and Creighton Blue Jay Josh Dix has signed a two-way deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder after going undrafted. Dix was a member of the Hawkeye program for three seasons (2022-2025) before joining Creighton. He was a part of the mass exodus from Iowa City following the dismissal of long-time head coach Fran McCaffery.
Creighton had a very down year by program standards during the 2025-2026 season, finishing 16-18 (9-11 Big East), good for fifth in the Big East Conference. Dix was no different, putting up a career low 33.8 percent from beyond the arc and the worst field goal percentage of his career since his freshman season at 43.9 percent.
Dix is a gifted long-range shooter, shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc in three seasons with the Hawkeyes, and even though he went undrafted, he has an excellent opportunity to begin his pro career with the Thunder alongside fellow former Hawkeyes Bennett Stirtz and Payton Sandfort. Dix is the latest versatile guard to head to OKC, and it isn't an accident.
Sam Presti does it again after adding Dix on a two-way deal
The Thunder have made a habit of finding versatile guards and plugging them into the rotation. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Cason Wallace, Lu Dort, Jared McCain, Isaiah Joe, Alex Caruso, and Jaylin Williams are all prime examples, but not only are they loaded with talented guards, but they are also all on team-friendly contracts. It speaks to the organization that they draft extremely well, finding players who can contribute immediately.
SGA is obviously making the most out of any guard on the roster after signing a four-year, $285.4 million super-max extension, but the rest of the guards are on very friendly deals. The Thunder have some important roster decisions to make, with multiple players poised to make more money, but they have so many solid options that the decisions are much easier.
Dix is another intriguing guard option for the Thunder, especially with his elite shooting ability. At six-foot-six, he is also a solid secondary ball handler who rarely turns the ball over and is extremely efficient with the ball in his hands. Dix most likely won't make a huge impact for the organization next season, but with all the looming roster decisions, he has plenty of time to develop in the system and be an option down the road.
