A former Hawkeye hooper is starting to rise up the coaching ranks in women's college basketball.

Even though she played for the Hawkeyes for only two seasons, former guard Molly Davis made a lasting impact on the program and the fan base.

Before joining the Iowa program, Davis was an All-MAC player for the Central Michigan Chippewas for three seasons.

During her three seasons with the Chippewas, Davis was a stellar offensive player, averaging 17.9 points per game, including a career high of 20.8 in her sophomore season (2020-2021).

She also added 4.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.

Davis played alongside superstar Caitlin Clark for her final two seasons and was not asked to score very much.

However, she endeared herself to her teammates and Hawkeye fans with her defensive tenacity and leadership.

After playing a key role during Iowa's National Championship game run in the 2023-2024 season, Davis joined the Evansville women's basketball coaching staff.

Following a year-plus on the Purple Aces staff as a graduate assistant, Davis earned a promotion.

Evansville announced that Davis has been elevated from a graduate assistant to an assistant coach, securing a more permanent position.

After initially joining Robyn Scherr's staff, Scherr said Molly was an easy choice to add because she "is a winner" who has been part of many successful teams.

The Purple Aces struggled last season, finishing with a horrible 7-25 (3-17 MVC) record, and Davis and the rest of the coaching staff will try to help the team improve this season.

It was a great surprise for Hawkeye fans when Davis returned to Iowa City this year during the Hawkeyes' 76-point victory over the Purple Aces in early November.
