Longtime NBA player Joe Johnson earned the nickname "Iso Joe" for dominating the league in isolation throughout his career.
Johnson was a premier scorer during his peak with the Atlanta Hawks, finishing with a career 16.0 points-per-game average.
We invoked the name of the great "Iso Joe" because a star Iowa player has had similar success over the past few seasons in isolation opportunities.
Bennett Stirtz has become a lethal isolation scorer
Iowa star guard Bennet Stirtz has handled the leap to the Big Ten better than anyone would have expected.
Stirtz made a seamless transition from mid-major Drake to the Power Four, leading the Hawkeyes in most categories.
He is currently the team-leader in points (20.6), assists (4.5), and steals (1.4) per game, and is second in three-point field goal percentage (39.4 percent)
While his numbers per game have been impressive, what is even more impressive is how successful he is in isotation plays.
Just want to note for context on the Swain thing: he's currently isolating 1.3 times per game I believe. Sample is still small.

For reference: Stirtz has two straight years of 2x-ing Swain's volume in isos, scoring over 3 PPG in isos and over 1.1 PPP, which is pretty sick. https://t.co/ouk5lreaaG
There is a lot to unpack here, but Sam Vecenie, a senior writer for The Athletic, laid out just how good Stirtz has been in isolation attempts over the past two seasons.
Stirtz has averaged 3.0 points per game in isolation attempts, and he is scoring at a tremendously high clip, putting up 1.1 points per possession.
In basic terms, Stirtz is one of the most lethal scorers in college basketball in isolation scenarios, and he has the ball in his hands on almost every possession.
Anyone who watches Iowa closely knows how effective Stirtz is when he isolates his defender on the perimeter, and these numbers confirm that.
While Stirtz has been a lethal scorer for the Hawkeyes all season, the offense has often gotten stuck, and the rest of the squad has to step up for Iowa to be successful as the regular season wraps up.
