The dam has finally broken for new running back coach Jay Norvell after a big win on the recruiting trail.
Iowa's 2027 class is still taking shape, with multiple recruiting losses creating some speed bumps. The good thing is that Iowa has been in the mix for multiple talented prospects, but the bad thing is that they have been on the losing end more often than not. Recently, Iowa has lost out on 2027 three-star athlete Lundon Hampton, WR Brady Scott, RB Kenyon Norman, and four-star WR Lawrence Britt.
With all the losses, the program finally earned a big win.
2027 running back Keyon Thomas announced his commitment to Iowa Football
Warren Central High School in Indianapolis has been considered a football recruiting gold mine, and talented running back prospect Keyon Thomas has all the potential to be the next in line. During his junior year, Thomas tallied 1,337 rushing yards and 19 rushing touchdowns.
Now, he is taking his immense potential to Iowa City.

After initially receiving an offer at the end of April, Thomas made an immediate decision to visit the program and followed that up with a quick commitment. Thomas made his first official visit to the program on June 12, and it didn't take him long to decide. Thomas is a versatile back who has elite speed, but can also run through tacklers on his way to the end zone.
Thomas' elite speed is his biggest asset, and he has the potential to outplay his current ranking with his tremendous upside. Rivals currently ranks Thomas as a three-star prospect and Indiana's No. 17 overall prospect, but he was extremely productive as a junior and showcased the full range of his ability last season.
He has an extremely quick first step, and if he gets to the outside, good luck bringing him down in space. Thomas is also a twitchy athlete who makes quick decisions in the hole. Thomas' speed alone was enough for Iowa to take a chance on him, and he has the potential to be a great option in the Iowa backfield.
The running back room finally added someone in the 2027 recruiting class, and Thomas has all the makings of a hidden gem if he can stay healthy and develop in the Iowa system. With multiple options currently on the roster, Thomas will have to fight for snaps early on, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he makes an impact sooner rather than later.
He has already endeared himself to Iowa fans by not only claiming that Iowa is Offensive Line U but also that it is the original Running Back U. Thomas is doing and saying the right things, and it will be exciting to see what he brings to the program in a few seasons.
