As official visit season heats up, the Hawkeyes have already suffered a minor blow to their 2027 recruiting class without even getting a chance to make a pitch.

Iowa's 2027 class is still rounding into form, with a heavy focus on defense in the early stages of recruiting. With only 10 committed prospects, there is still some work to do, especially with a big weekend on the horizon.

The program is welcoming multiple talented prospects this weekend for its first big official visit weekend, and one prospect they were in the mix for has already decided. Unfortunately for the Hawkeyes, his decision didn't go their way.

3-star athlete Brady Scott is heading to the Indiana Hoosiers

One of the players that we had on commit watch for the Hawkeyes was torn between Indiana and Iowa, but apparently, it was not actually that close.

Rivals predicted WR/DB prospect Brady Scott to choose either Indiana or Iowa, with Indiana holding an 80.1 percent chance of success, but he never really gave the Hawkeyes a chance. Scott was scheduled to make an official visit to Iowa City this weekend, but Indiana hosted him this past weekend and never let him leave.

Iowa gained early momentum in Scott's recruiting by hosting him three times. Once during Iowa's thrilling comeback win against Michigan State, once in December, and a third time in April during spring practices. Indiana gained the upper hand late, and he is officially headed to the Hoosiers.

Scott is an intriguing prospect who played both wide receiver and defensive back for Tabor Academy in Reading, Massachusetts, and most squads were valuing him more in the secondary. His biggest asset is his blazing speed, and that will allow him to keep up with the speedier receivers in the Big Ten.

Scott's snub stings, but the program won't lose sleep over it

You win some, and you lose some, and with a massive recruiting weekend ahead, Iowa won't be dwelling on losing Scott to the Hoosiers. The Hawkeyes also already have safety prospect Jake Theis committed in the class, so Scott's snub isn't a huge blow.

The program still has 16 visits scheduled for this weekend alone, and the focus has to shift to those prospects. Six of those 16 prospects have not committed yet, and while heavy emphasis will be placed on those five, the program still has to make a good impression on the 10 who have already committed.

All but one of the uncommitted prospects is an offensive player, signaling a clear focus on that side of the ball in the class. With offensive linemen consistently at the center of attention for the program, even with Scott opting to sign with the Hoosiers, the Hawkeyes still have a chance to have an amazing weekend.
