It still was not a fair catch.

Not that we have gotten that out of the way, the Hawkeyes are once again preparing for a tough matchup against rival Minnesota this coming Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Gophers (5-2, 3-1 Big Ten) are having a great first half of the season following a modest 8-5 finish last season.

Minnesota is coming off a solid 24-9 win against Nebraska, where they forced a program record nine sacks in the win.

Iowa (5-2, 3-1 Big Ten) is also coming off a solid win against Penn State, where they had to use every minute of the game to eek out a 25-24 win at Kinnick last Saturday night.

Head Coach Kirk Ferentz was proud of the resiliency his team showed in the win, and he knows they are facing another challenging opponent with Minnesota coming to town.

During his weekly press conference, Ferentz praised Minnesota for their toughness and proven success in all three phases of the game, but he was more focused on how well his team has been playing lately.

Mark Gronowski is "great to be around"

Ever since he arrived in Iowa City in January, quarterback Mark Gronowski has made a positive impact on the Iowa squad and coaching staff.

Ferentz stated that ever since he met with Mark and his dad, he knew he was going to be a solid addition to the locker room.

Gronowski's production at South Dakota State was amazing, and he has carried that over in his first and only season with the Hawkeyes.

Even though he was not able to play in the spring, he quickly earned his teammates' respect, and he has blended "so well" with everyone in the building.

TJ Hall has turned himself into Iowa's best cornerback

After a disastrous showing in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl last winter, there were a lot of questions surrounding defensive backs Deshaun Lee and TJ Hall.

While Lee has shown flashes this season, Hall has taken a massive step forward.

Ferentz stated that Iowa has traditionally had at least one stellar cornerback that they have built around, and this season, it has been TJ Hall.

Ferentz also stated that Hall took a big step forward in the spring as he continued to grow in leadership and confidence, which he has demonstrated through the first half of the season.

The offensive line has overcome early setbacks

Ferentz was extremely appreciative of the way the offensive line has come together through adversity this season.

At the beginning of the season, the Hawkeyes were trying to replace multiple key contributors and suffered through some injuries and inconsistencies.

Now at the halfway point of the season, the unit is one of the top in college football and has been a major strength of the offense.

Ferentz credited coach George Barnett with being rock-solid for the program since taking over as the offensive line coach.

Ferentz also credited Barnett with being a great teacher and said the line is moving in the right direction, closer to where they want it to be.

The Hawkeyes face another challenging game this weekend at Kinnick and will need to execute in all three phases to keep Floyd in Iowa City.
