The time for talk is over, it's time for college basketball!
The Iowa Hawkeyes finished their preparation for the 2025-2026 season with a tune-up game against Ashland last Thursday.
In a game full of hockey-style lineup changes, Iowa started the game with a 9-2 scoring run and never looked back.
Senior forward Hannah Stuelke dominated in the paint, dropping a team-high 23 points, and added nine rebounds, four assists, and a steal.
Sophomore center Ava Heiden added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and newcomer Emely Rodriguez added 17 points.
The Hawkeyes welcome the Southern University Jaguars, who had a solid 2024-2025 season.
Southern finished the season with a 21-15 overall record, but was 15-2 in conference play. They won the SWAC regular season and conference tournament titles and made an NCAA Tournament appearance.
Before the Hawkeyes take on the Jaguars, we have all the important game notes.

Important Iowa program notes
- Iowa is the first Big Ten program in history to play in back-to-back National Championship games.
- Iowa has achieved nine consecutive seasons with 20 or more wins.
- The Hawkeyes have played in front of 36 consecutive home sellouts, the longest active streak in the nation.
- Iowa is 127-20 in Iowa City since November 2016
Final prediction
Southern will present a unique challenge to the Hawkeyes as Southern head coach Carlos Funchess likes to cycle through multiple groups of players.
Southern is missing its leading scorer, Hannah Stines (18.0 PPG), from last season, and it is unknown who will provide a scoring boost for the Jaguars.
Iowa has starters Hannah Stuelke, Kylie Feuerbach, and Taylor McCabe returning, and has multiple talented young players on the roster this season.
Stuelke and Heiden should eat in the paint, and each player should tally a double-double against a weaker Southern opponent.
The Hawkeyes will roll in this game, winning easily in the first game at home
Final score: Iowa 94, Southern 58
