What is going on with the Iowa passing attack?

The Hawkeye offense has been heavily reliant on the running game this season, and for good reason. The offensive line has been stout all year, and with Mark Gronowski as a plus-one in the running game, the Iowa rushing attack is hard to stop.

The most astounding thing about the Iowa offense is its complete lack of any kind of passing attack.

The Hawkeyes entered the game against Michigan State ranked No. 130 overall, averaging a woeful 133.6 yards per game.

Before every game, Gronowski is asked about why the passing attack has not figured it out, and he continues to chalk it up to not being calm in the pocket or not being on the same page as the receivers.

After 10 games, that is not something Iowa fans want to hear.

During media availability this week, Gronowski stated that in the second season under Tim Lester, the offense is "still learning the playbook," and the passing attack still hasn't "fully clicked."

For such a dynamic quarterback with close to 11,000 passing yards in his career, that is just unacceptable.

Through 10 games this season, Gronowski has tallied only 1,216 passing yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions.

He has been much more dynamic in the running game, tallying 370 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.

In the first half against Michigan State, Gronowski still could not get the passing attack going, completely only five of ten passes for 24 yards and an interception.

It is unclear whether Gronowski is not on the same page as his receivers, the receivers are running poor routes, the play-calling has been bad, or a combination of all of the above, but something has to change for the Hawkeyes to come away with a win in this game.
