Even after losing star quarterback Mark Gronowski following his one-and-done season in Iowa City, Iowa's quarterback room is one of the deepest groups in the program.
Gronowski's departure opens the door for a talented group of quarterbacks, including Hank Brown, Jeremy Hecklinski, Tradon Bessinger, Jimmy Sullivan, and Ryan Fitzgerald, to take the reins next season.
While most projections point to Hank Brown and Jeremy Hecklinski being named the starter next season, it is still far too early in the process to know for sure.
Brown started last season as Gronowski's primary backup, but after some uninspiring snaps, including in the close 20-15 loss to Indiana, Hecklinski took over.
Regardless of who the starter is, the impending starting quarterback battle is getting some attention.
Hank Brown vs. Jeremy Hecklinski was named a QB battle to watch
In the past, no one would care about a starting quarterback battle in Iowa City, but after the regime change with Tim Lester at the helm of the offense, more eyeballs are on the Iowa offense.

According to On3 Sports, Iowa's impending quarterback battle between projected starters Hank Brown and Jeremy Hecklinski is one of the top battles ahead of next season.
After limited snaps with Wake Forest as a true freshman in 2024, Hecklinski hit the transfer portal and landed in Iowa City in the same transfer portal class as Gronowski.
Brown spent two seasons in the SEC with Auburn before making the move to Iowa City ahead of the 2025 season.
Brown got two starts in 2024 against Arkansas and New Mexico and played in the 2023 Music City Bowl.
It is still way too early to know who has the edge in Iowa's quarterback battle, but it will be exciting to see who comes out victorious before the start of the 2026 season.
