The 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft is right around the corner. Since 2021, the MLB Draft consists of 20 rounds and over 600 selections.
Since 2023, the draft order has been determined by the Draft Lottery, which takes place during the winter meetings in December.
The 2025 MLB Draft will take place from Sunday, July 13, to Monday, July 14. The opening night of the draft will reveal the first 105 picks of the first three rounds, compensatory rounds, competitive balance rounds, and prospect promotion incentive selections.
One of the potential first 105 picks is a former Hawkeye left-handed pitcher.

Former Iowa pitcher Cade Obermueller is a highly-ranked prospect ahead of the MLB Draft. Obermueller is ranked as the No. 53 overall prospect ahead of the draft, joining six other Big Ten prospects in the top 100.
Obermueller had a stellar year for Iowa Baseball with a 5-3 record and a 3.02 earned run average (ERA) in 15 starts.
He also racked up 117 strikeouts in 83.1 innings.
Before the 2024 season, the Texas Rangers drafted Obermueller with the No. 585 pick in the 19th round, but he decided to return to Iowa for his junior season.
Scouts love Obermueller's pitching motion from a low arm slot that allows him to get tremendous break on his above-average slider. He also has a good fastball that sits between 91 and 94 miles per hour, and can touch 98.
The MLB Draft begins Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Central Time from Atlanta, Georgia, and airs on ESPN and the MLB Network.
