Iowa is affectionately known as "Tight End U" for a reason, and it all began with Dallas Clark.
Clark is still a legend in Iowa City after his collegiate career with the Hawkeyes and in the NFL. Clark was inducted into the Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022 after spending three seasons with the program (2000-2002). Clark tallied 1,251 receiving yards and eight touchdown receptions during his Iowa career. He also had a very successful NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Baltimore Ravens. He was the initial member of "Tight End U" and proved on "College GameDay" that he still has it.
Dallas Clark nailed a throw that earned a student and the UI Hospital some money
ESPN's "College GameDay" is on campus for Iowa's big matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the atmosphere was raucous all morning. Kirk Ferentz joined the show, members of the Iowa women's basketball team were involved, and former Iowa legend Caitlin Clark was the guest picker. Fans likely went hoarse from all the cheering, and one of the loudest moments came when Dallas Clark launched a 50-yard pass with massive implications.
The kicks didn’t go as planned, so Dallas Clark stepped in for 150K 😭

He threw it through the uprights to win $150,000 for her AND $150,000 for the hospital 🙌 pic.twitter.com/hQAjJZS8rb
A staple of CGD is Pat McAfee and the crew bringing out students to win scholarship money by kicking field goals, and to say the kicks didn't go well might be an understatement. Iowa football is known for its special teams prowess, but that didn't seem to extend to fans. It is not an easy kick to make with the whole country watching, but Clark stepped up to win a student and the University of Iowa Hospital some money. Instead of kicking it through the uprights, Clark launched a 50-yard throw to win a lucky student and the University of Iowa Hospital $150,000 each.
It was a great moment for everyone involved, and it proved Clark is in great shape at 47. Clark and McAfee were teammates in Indianapolis, and it was great to see the CGD crew bring him out of the crowd to create that special moment. Iowa's offense could use 2002 Dallas Clark to help them overcome a stingy Ohio State defense. Hopefully, all the energy from the morning on "College GameDay" carries over to the field. Iowa will need its passing game and tight ends to play a solid game against Ohio State's defense, which Illinois exposed in week four
The Fighting Illini defense couldn't contain the all the starpower on Ohio State's offense, but quarterback Katin Houser tallied 263 passing yards and a touchdown, whole running back Aidan Laughery had 113 rushing yards. Ohio State isn't as indestrucible as they have been in the past, Iowa must take advantage. If the Hawkeyes' defense can hold their own against quarterback Julian Sayin and star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, Iowa will be in this game. It won't be easy, but if Iowa can keep the game close or even knock off the Buckeyes at home, they have a clear path to the College Football Playoff.
