The overwhelming excitement surrounding the University of Iowa campus and Kinnick Stadium is about to get even bigger.

After Iowa's week-four road win over Michigan at the "Big House," ESPN's "College GameDay" made the obvious decision to head to Iowa City in week five. It is the first time the program has been in Iowa City since 2006, also featuring Iowa and Ohio State. Expectations are high, and the energy is even higher, but the recently selected "guest picker" might send the energy into the stratosphere.

Hawkeye legend Caitlin Clark will be the 'guest picker' for CGD

Iowa has produced some well-known athletes in various programs, but none have reached Caitlin Clark's level. Clark took a good Iowa program to new heights, and it still hasn't come down. Clark did things that most basketball fans have never seen before, and that has stayed with her during her time in the WNBA and recently with Team USA. Clark has almost single-handedly put women's basketball into the spotlight, and now she is returning to the spot that helped launch her stardom.

In another no-brainer, ESPN chose Clark as its guest picker for tomorrow's CGD from the Pentacrest in downtown Iowa City, and few decisions in life are this easy. Clark is by far the most recognizable former Hawkeye, and unfortunately for her, she has a little more free time now that the Fever were questionably knocked out of the WNBA playoffs by the Las Vegas Aces. Clark had another phenomenal year for the Fever, all but cementing herself as one of the best players all-time, and she's just getting started.

Clark has been at the center of multiple off-court controversies this year, but that doesn't diminish how dynamic she was on the court. She finished the 2026 season with career highs in points per game (22.3), field goal percentage per game (44.6), and three-point percentage per game (36.1), while also leading the Fever in assists per game (8.3) and setting a new career low in turnovers per game (4.6). After missing most of the 2025 season, Clark came back with a vengeance and had a career year.

Her WNBA season might be over, but that doesn't mean she will fall out of the spotlight. Clark's return to Iowa City is a welcome sight for all Hawkeye fans, and she is extremely knowledgeable about a lot of sports outside of basketball. She is the perfect choice to be the guest picker, and fans can't wait to see her on the CGD desk on Saturday morning before the Hawkeyes battle the Buckeyes at Kinnick Stadium.
