Iowa Football has added a new wrinkle to its recruiting strategy by heavily pursuing multi-position players.
It is never a bad idea to have players who can play multiple positions and fit them in where you need them, and that is exactly what the program is trying to do.
After a torrid start with multiple prospects committing after visits to spring practices, the commitments have slowed down, but the offers have not.
The program has stayed active on both sides of the ball, especially on defense, with linebackers coach Seth Wallace attempting to bring in a versatile athlete for the 2028 recruiting class.
The Hawkeys are taking a chance on currently unranked prospect Brodie Metzger
Not everyone is going to be a five-star recruit, and the program has a stellar track record of finding diamonds in the rough, especially on defense.
Minnesota prospect Brodie Metzger is one of those potential diamonds in the rough, and Iowa became his first Power Four conference offer.
After an amazing visit and conversation with @CoachSWallace and the rest of the @HawkeyeFootball staff, I’m grateful to receive my first P4 offer! @CoachFerentz @TylerBarnesIowa @RhettSmeins @chris_polizzi @CoachMaccc pic.twitter.com/tPUUJ7UYyE

Metzger is currently an unranked prospect from Hills-Beaver Creek Secondary School in Beaver Creek, Minnesota, but that could easily change.
Last season for the Patriots, he lined up all over the field, racking up 1,579 all-purpose yards and 26 total touchdowns on offense, including 1,096 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns, and 483 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns.
He also added 57 total tackles, including nine tackles for loss, two sacks, and one interception on defense.
Metzger has good size and speed, allowing him to run by defenders on offense and get downhill, blowing up plays on defense.
With Wallace as his primary recruiter, it suggests Iowa is looking at him more on the defensive side of the ball, but it would not be a surprise if he moved to wide receiver.
