In the new era of college football, it is never a bad thing to have too many versatile athletes on your side, and Iowa Football is attempting to lure more of them to Iowa City.
The Iowa program is not known for having explosive athletes on either side of the football, but it is recognized for developing the athletes it recruits into NFL-caliber players.
Even though Iowa does not always have tremendous athletes, Head Coach Kirk Ferentz likes to recruit multi-sport athletes to utilize their versatility throughout the entire football field.
Some of Iowa's best players in the past have been multi-sport athletes, such as Tristan Wirfs (football, track, and wrestling), Cooper DeJean (football and basketball), and Tyler Linderbaum (football and wrestling.
Iowa has to get creative with the athletes they bring in, and that includes pilfering recruits from other programs if necessary.

Over the weekend, Iowa offered 2026 athlete Braeden Presley, even though he is already committed to Oklahoma State.
Presley has not announced he is looking for a new program, but after Oklahoma State fired Mike Gundy, Iowa is attempting to steal him away from the Cowboys program.
Presley is a jack-of-all-trades for Bixby High School in Bixby, Oklahoma, playing a key role on both sides of the football.
During his junior season (2024), Presley accumulated 354 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 25 catches as a wide receiver, while also tallying 245 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries as a running back.
Presley also added 39 tackles, four interceptions, and one fumble recovery on defense, as well as over 400 punt/kick return yards.
