One of the strengths of the Iowa Football under Head Coach Kirk Ferentz is the offensive line. Ferentz had extensive experience as an offensive line coach before taking the head coaching job with Iowa.
Ferentz was the offensive line coach for legendary Iowa Head Coach Hayden Fry from 1981 to 1989 before taking the head coaching position at the University of Maine.
In 1993, Ferentz headed to the NFL to serve as the offensive line coach for Baltimore and Cleveland from 1993 to 1998, before returning to Iowa to take over after Fry retired.
Since taking over the Iowa program in 1999, Ferentz has had six offensive drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft, including Tyler Linderbaum (2021), Tristan Wirfs (2020), Brandon Scherff (2014), Riley Reiff (2012), Bryan Bulaga (2010), and Robert Gallery (2004).
Wirfs is currently the highest paid offensive lineman in the NFL.
Fernetz is adept at taking under-recruited offensive linemen and turning them into solid NFL Draft picks.
This week, the Hawkeye program added the commitment of an 2025 in-state offensive prospect who hopes to be one of the next great offensive lineman to come from the University of Iowa.

Decorah native Will Hahn announced he has accepted a preferred walk-on offer from Iowa Football.
Hahn, a six-foot-two, 270-pound offensive lineman, was a First Team All-State performer for Decorah High School last season.
Iowa lost multiple talented players on the offensive line to graduation or the NFL, including Mason Richman (Seattle Seahawks) and Connor Colby (San Francisco 49ers), and they need to add more depth.
Hahn has the size to be a solid offensive lineman, but he will have to work hard to carve out a significant role as a walk-on.
